Panning Assignment

The assignment was to take a panning shot with consideration to the background as well as keeping the moving object sharp. Technique is simply swing the camera in an arch at the same speed as the moving object using a slow shutter speed, 1/15 @ ISO 400 suggested. I found on a bright sunny day I shot with ISO 50, f/22, shutter speed 1/5 and 1/6 sec.

I chose a location on the lake that would allow me to use the lake and the government buildings on the opposite foreshore as recognisable backgrounds even though they would be out of focus. The location provided a pretty constant stream of cyclist allowing lots of reshoots. The process is much harder than it seems. I took about 60 images and these were the best of the lot. Guess I need to practice the technique a lot more.
