Assignment 1 - Getting to know your camera

My camera: Canon 5D MK II

1. What is the size of the sensor in mm and number of MP? Is it full-frame?

36x24 mm, 21 MP. Full frame.

2. What is the lens focal length?

24-105 mm

3. Do you know where the on off switch is?

Yes. Bottom right on rear of camera - has on/off

4. What is the slowest shutter speed?

Bulb & 1/30th sec

5. What is the fastest shutter speed?

1/8000th sec

6. What is your smallest lens aperture?

f/22

7. What is your largest lens aperture?

f/4

8. What is the range of file saving?

RAW + JPEG Large (RAW 21 JPEG 21); RAW1 + JPEG Large (RAW 10 JPEG 21); RAW2 + JPEG Large (RAW 5.2 JPEG 21);

RAW @ 21 MP; RAW1 9.9 MP;RAW2 5.2 MP;

JPEG Large fine & normal 21 MP; JPEG Medium fine & normal 11.1 MP; JPEG Small fine & normal

9. What is the range of preset white balance?

(2500-10000 Kelvin) Auto (3000-7000); Daylight (5200); Shade (7000); Cloudy, twilight, sunset (6000); tungsten (3200); white fluorescent light (4000); flash (6000); Custom (2000-10000); Colour temperature (‘K’ 2500-10000 in 100K increments).

10. What are the range of exposure modes?

Full Automatic; P - Program; Tv - Shutter-Priority; AV - Apeture-Prioity; M - Manual; B - Bulb; Creative Auto; Camera User settings C1, C2, C3.

11. How do you set the Manual (M) exposure mode?

Set the exposure mode to M then use the Main dial and the Quick Control Dial to set the aperture and shutter speed.

12. How do you override the pop-up flash?

NA the 5D MK II does not have a built in flash.

13. How do you change from auto to manual focus?

There is a switch on the barrel of the lens.

14. What is the range of ISO settings on the camera?

ISO can be set between 100-6400 there is an Auto (A) setting

In shooting modes Auto, Creative Auto, Program, Tv and Av ISO range is 100-3200

In shooting modes M & B ISO is fixed at 400

With flash ISO is fixed at 400

ISO speed settings increments can in Custom Function Settings to increments of 1/3 stop or 1 stop.

In Custom Functions Settings the ISO can be expanded to equivalents of: L (ISO 50); H1 (ISO 12800) and H2 (25600).
